September 30, 2014 in Puerto Escondido transfering to Salina Cruz with Elder Rodriguez

the district before we left Puerto Escondido

 from Facebook- "selfies with Sawyer"

Well todays changes. And I’m probably the biggest surprise in my mission- in a couple of hours I will be taking my talents back to Salina Cruz! haha I’m so excited! haha Mario already found out and called me haha. The crazy thing is though is that I’m training a new Mexican that is probably still in the MTC right now and I’m gonna be opening up a new area in Salina Cruz. I think I’m gonna have to go to the top of the mountain and dedicate the area for the teaching of the gospel haha but I’m so excited. The other news is that I’m not ZL anymore. It feels super weird not worrying about changes but it’s gonna be so awesome to just be able to focus on my area. This looks like it’s gonna be my last area, so ya it’s gonna be good. Half the mission just got turned on its head, pretty much all the zone leaders with any time are out training kids and everything just got shuffled around. I’m excited to start blank and be a normal missionary and just kill it these last six months. But ya, tomorrow I’ll have time to send pics and stuff,(America got baptized yesterday) I just got a minute to write today.
Love you guys!

Amerika's baptism

Hey so I’m here in Salina Cruz with my new comp Elder Rodriguez del DF (translated by Mom- means of the Federal District or Mexico City). ya he’s my 3rd kid in the mission, he seems really excited and he’s way verde haha. It was his birthday yesterday and we went and got tlayudas to celebrate last night. We got a super sick house in an awesome area and I got a bunch of friends in my zone. haha it’s gonna be an awesome place to work. We are opening the area so we are pretty much just walking around blind. We haven’t actually done much, just unpack and district meeting and buy food. It’s gonna be hard buts it’s kinda cool just starting from scratch with an area. The bus ride was only 6 hours- I slept and watched 1 movie,
Love you guys, I’lll write more next week!

September 22, 2014 - Puerto Escondido with Elder Allred

"Playa Bacacho"
"the elders"

"the hermanas"

Hi everybody! Well, we just got back from the beach, we got permission to go and play volleyball and just look at the water. I’m sure our group looked pretty interesting, getting really close to the water, but never touching it haha. So that was pretty fun- also this week was Mexican Independence day, and ya it got kinda crazy. The rama had a party and it was pretty crazy, I took a bunch of pics and videos and I’ll send those in a minute. About 150 went to the party Saturday night and then about 50 showed up for sacrament meeting.... haha poco a poco.
The space bar on the computer is broken and it’s really annoying me, will you fix my letter mom. thanks.
Also this week we had a multi zone conference in Huatulco, so that was pretty cool. Prez talked to me after and it looks like I won’t be here next change... but nothing is set in stone so we will see. This week we had 7 investigatores and 7 menos activos come to church. It was one of the better Sundays in my mission (apart from the members dropping the ball haha) we are working way hard and our area is exploding right now. The members are working really hard right now and that makes all the difference.
But I’ll send you guys some pics in a minute and stuff but thanks for all the emails and letters and packages and have a good week!

Elder Sawyer

September 19, 2014- Puerto Escondido/Huatulco Zone Conference

Sister Madsen is teaching the missionaries some exercises to a song called "Chicken Fat". She put these photos on Facebook. Our family loved seeing Andrew do push-ups and lunges- just like football camp! haha

September 15, 2014- Puerto Escondido with Elder Allred

“what I bought for food this week (it’s watermelon season again.)”

“the hermanas "helping me open my package"

"I got the package, I think it was all there, just a little opened"
Happy sept. 15! everybody! haha today and tomorrow are gonna be crazy! And there’s not a better place to spend it than in Puerto Escondido. Tonight we are not even gonna leave to work, we have to be in house at 6 here haha. Should be a big difference from last years. Saturday is the ward party and it’s gonna be awesome! don’t worry I’ll take pics.
This week was also district conference so prez. came out to speak. haha prez is crazy! he’s such an awesome guy, super different from prez Leyva. haha during his talk to the priesthood leaders he stops and asks us in the middle of it how to translate hellfire and brimstone in Spanish. haha super random.
Today we also played some soccer with a ton of jovenes and now were super tired cause we played like 3 hours straight. It’s incredible watching some of these kids play barefoot and just how good they are.
The big news for this week is Melissa’s daughter, America is gonna get baptized which is gonna be awesome.
Thanks for the package, I finally got it this week. haha it was good and pretty ripped up. My favorite thing was the big lizard that grows in water!
C….. is just staying stagnant, we really don’t know what’s going on with them. poco a poco.
I think one of the dogs got hit by a car this week, but I’ll get a pic with the other two. but ya, just enjoying the time here, it looks like I probably only got two weeks left here in Puerto so I’m gonna make the most of them!
Love you guys! Drinking is bad!

September 9, 2014- Puerto Escondido with Elder Allred

a baby chick- don't worry, I didn't actually eat it..

some investigatores made us crab

Hermana Trinidad- my favorite person in the whole mission. She got back from the temple and invited us over for molé to tell us all about it.
I’m gonna try to send pics in a minute, todays kinda a rushed day and might not have a whole ton of time to write. But A.... and C....... are still dragging their feet –it’s getting kind of frustrating- they pay tithing, a fast offerings and they’re not even members. Tell Kyle to get down the field. Also tell tucker I say hi -haha that’s crazy that he’ll be home this week. . Love, Elder Sawyer

September 1, 2014- Puerto Escondido with Elder Allred

hey everybody- how’s it going? Another crazy week here in Puerto trying to find houses and move fridges and fill up baptismal fonts. We’ve had some house problems with some of the hermanas so a lot(too much) time was dedicated to that (and today we are trying to figure out how to get their fridge and beds and stuff to the new house cause they are getting kicked out at twelve, but it’ll all work out. there were also two baptisms in the rama this week (C...... and K.......) and they asked me to do it,  so that was cool. the problem was it had rained the day before and the water came out black into the font, we had to go sign a house contract so we left 2 hermanas in charge of the font water. they decided it would be a great idea to just dye the water blue.....with ink!  The font is stained and so are my clothes- Let’s just say we are about to buy a lot of cloro and bleach haha.  I think I’ll send my clothes to the hermanas too This week I also ate some different things. Monday an hermana made, especially for me, pulpo a la diabla (octopus of the devil), and it was awesome and then the next day we had a cocktail de calamar y pez bella (squid cocktail and beautiful fish) which was awesome. I’ll send pics next week. This week Mellissa’s daughter America is gonna get baptized and we are getting Melissa ready to go do baptisms for the dead which intrigues her a ton (I don’t know if that is the right word in English) and the good news is C........ gonna know Wednesday if he’s divorced or if his wife is gonna drag it out for a while- so keep him in your prayers. We got some rain but not much else from the hurricane. everyone here is getting ready for the 15 and 16th of septiembre, I’m super excited to be here in Puerto for that, it’s gonna be cool, but ya that’s the news, hope you guys have a good week
